Types of Membership
Active Membership - Open to instrumental music teachers, coordinators, or supervisors in the public or private schools; and instrumental music teachers in the community colleges, colleges, and universities of southern California. These schools must be located in the counties of Imperial, Inyo, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura. Active members shall enjoy the full rights and privileges of SCSBOA Membership.
Honorary Life Membership - Conferred upon individuals by a two-thirds vote of the SCSBOA Board of Directors. Persons thus chosen shall be selected for significant contributions to instrumental music education and to the membership of the SCSBOA. Honorary Life Members (HLM's) shall enjoy the full rights and privileges of Active Membership.
Retired Membership - Open to those who have held Active Membership in the SCSBOA for 10 or more years, are 55 years of age or over, and who are no longer teaching music. Retired members shall enjoy the full rights and privileges of Active Membership. Dues for Retired Members shall be 50% of the dues of Active Members.
Active-Associate Membership - Includes: a.) Experts other than instrumental music teachers who render professional service to the SCSBOA in its activities; b.) Instrumental music teachers outside the 11 southern California counties of Imperial, Inyo, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura who wish to participate in SCSBOA activities. Active-Associate Members enjoy full rights and privileges of SCSBOA Membership excluding the right to hold office.
Retired Active-Associate Membership - Includes all Active-Associate members who have retired but do not qualify for Retired Membership classification as described above and those who have held Active-Associate Membership in the SCSBOA for 10 or more years, are 55 years of age or over, and who are no longer working in their field of expertise. Retired Active-Associate Members shall enjoy the same rights as Active-Associate Members. Dues of Retired Active-Associate Members shall be 60% of the dues of Active-Associate Members.
Associate Membership - Open to any firm, person, or organization interested in being identified with the SCSBOA. Associate members shall have limited membership privileges. They shall be excluded from the right to vote, to hold office or to act in any official SCSBOA capacity without the approval of the SCSBOA Board of Directors.
Retired Associate Membership - Open to those who have held an Associate Membership for 10 or more years, are 55 years of age or over, and who are no longer working in their field of expertise. Retired Associate Members shall retain the same rights as Associate Members. Dues of Retired Associate Members shall be 60% of the dues of Associate Members.
Student Membership - Open to instrumental music students in grades eleven and twelve and in college. Student members shall have limited membership privileges. They shall be excluded from the right to vote, to hold office or to act in any official SCSBOA capacity without the approval of the SCSBOA Board of Directors.
